1. Introduction

The Vascular Surgery Department specializes in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the arteries, veins, and lymphatic system, excluding those of the heart and brain. Vascular surgeons manage both emergency and chronic vascular conditions, including aneurysms, varicose veins, peripheral artery disease (PAD), and deep vein thrombosis (DVT). With the advent of minimally invasive endovascular procedures, the department now offers advanced treatment options such as angioplasty, stenting, and bypass surgeries, ensuring better outcomes with faster recovery. The team consists of experienced vascular surgeons, interventional radiologists, and wound care specialists who deliver comprehensive, limb-saving, and life-saving care.

Importance in Public Health

Vascular diseases are a leading cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, particularly due to rising rates of diabetes, hypertension, smoking, and sedentary lifestyles. Vascular surgery plays a crucial role in preventing strokes, amputations, and sudden deaths from aneurysm ruptures or embolisms. Early intervention can save limbs and lives, especially in diabetic patients prone to foot ulcers and infections. By offering both surgical and endovascular solutions, vascular surgeons help reduce the need for major open surgeries and long hospital stays. The department is also central to public health efforts involving screening, education, and preventive vascular care, especially in high-risk populations.
