1. Introduction

The Ophthalmology Department is dedicated to the diagnosis, treatment, and surgical management of eye and vision-related disorders. It caters to patients across all age groups—from routine eye exams to complex surgeries such as cataract extraction, corneal transplants, glaucoma surgeries, and retinal interventions. With the integration of advanced diagnostic equipment and laser technology, ophthalmologists deliver precision eye care that helps prevent vision loss and improve quality of life. The department also plays a key role in preventive eye health, especially for populations at risk due to diabetes, aging, hypertension, and occupational hazards.

Importance in Public Health

Vision impairment and preventable blindness are major global public health issues, especially in aging populations and underserved communities. The Ophthalmology Department plays a critical role in reducing the burden of avoidable blindness through timely screenings, early intervention, and public awareness. Regular eye exams can detect diabetes, hypertension, and neurological conditions at an early stage. School vision screening, occupational eye safety programs, and diabetic eye care initiatives further strengthen its role in public health. By offering affordable, accessible, and advanced eye care, the department helps improve productivity, quality of life, and independence, particularly in vulnerable groups like children, the elderly, and people with chronic diseases.
